A new WordPress site can look finished while still missing important technical and content basics. Use this checklist before you start promoting it.
Brand and navigation
Upload a clear logo, set a site icon, check your site title and tagline, and keep the main menu simple. Visitors should understand what the site is about within seconds.
Core pages
Create About, Contact, Privacy Policy, Terms, and any disclosure pages your business needs. Make sure footer links work.
Permalinks
Use clean, readable URLs. Avoid unnecessary dates or random parameters in article URLs unless your publishing model specifically requires them.
Mobile experience
Check the homepage, menus, article pages, forms, buttons, tables, and images on a phone. Many layout problems only become obvious on smaller screens.
Performance
Compress oversized images, remove unused plugins, avoid unnecessary animation, and use caching where appropriate. A clean site is usually easier to maintain and faster to load.
Search visibility
Make sure you have not accidentally left the site set to discourage search engines. Add meaningful page titles, headings, image alt text, and internal links.
Security and backups
Use strong account passwords, keep WordPress and plugins updated, enable backups, and avoid installing plugins from unknown sources.
Final check
Open the site in a private browser window and click through it as if you were a first-time visitor. Fix anything confusing before you send traffic to the site.
